Markhor can run easily and quickly over the mountains. The color of Markhor is light white. Markhor is available in Gilgit, in the valley of Hunza, in the valley of Kalash, in the valley of Neelam and in the valley of Chitral. Markhor is also available in other countries like Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and India. There are 6 types of Markhor in the whole world. Whereas the 5 types of Markhor in Pakistan that’s why we call Markhor the national animal.
Pir Panjal Markhor
Pir Panjal Markhor is also known as Kashmiri Markhor. Their kind of Markhor can be seen between Chitral and Deer. Moreover, it is also available in Swat and Kohistan.
Astor Markhor
Astor Markhor can be found around the Gilgit area. This kind of Markhor also available in Nanga Parbat. And mostly sighted on the both sides of Astor river.
Kabul Markhor
Kabul Markhor can be seen in the district of Malakand, and in the area of Mardan that is range sakra.
Suleman Markhor
Suleman Markhor is available on the mountainous areas of Quetta, named as tahto, zargan, phut Kali etc.
Markhor is actually a mountainous animal that’s why survive over the hight of 600 to 3600. Markhor stays in the group. And their feed change with respect to time, their sounds match with the goat sound. The hunters of Markhor are Eagle and Lion.
Himalayan Ibex
Mostly, this type of goats are considered as Black Markhor. The actual difference between Ibex and Markhor is; the horns of Ibex are rounded in a circular shape whereas the horns of Markhor are zig zag. The Ibex looks more beautiful than Markhor. So, that’s why in the museum, the horns of Ibex can be seen. The male Ibex also has a beard.
They stay over the mountains of height from 3650 to 500. Such types of goat are mostly available over the mountains of Gilgit, Hunza. Moreover also available over the mountains of India, Afghanistan. In the season of breed, male and female both fight with each other. Mostly give birth to twins. They give birth in the month of May and June. The babies of Markhor stay with Markhor from 5 to 6 months. The last type of wild goats is Sindh Ibex.
Sindh Ibex
In the Persian language, the Sindh Ibex is also called a wild goat. The common indication which differentiates between male and female is: the male Ibex has a beard whereas the female Ibex has no beard. The matured male has black hairs on the chest and strong legs.
The matured male Ibex looks so beautiful with long horns. This type of Markhor can also survive in the desert area and usually stay over the height of 3300 km. This type of Markhor can be seen in the mountain regions of Sindh and Baluchistan. Not only in Pakistan, is this type of Markhor also available in the mountain regions of Turkey, Iran, Russia and Iraq.
